Traditional lighting solutions have a single use, we would buy a head torch to wear, a hand torch to hold and guide our way, and a night torch to fall asleep to. This is wasteful, as they are single use, they are seldom used. There was an opportunity to make one light serve all purposes, by changing its form, and in turn upgrade its function. Instead of having several lights all serving individual functions, the glowstone gives you one extremely powerful light that can do every job.
